Building a shed is a great way to get out of the house and do something productive. In this blog post, I am going to give you some insight as we get our DIY shed built.
First step is to figure out where you’d like to put it. Depending on the lay of the land, you may be able to simply put the shed on the side of your yard that is flat and ready to build. If it’s not flat terrain, you’d have to either dig it down or use some footings for your foundation.
Foundation can be made with either a concrete slab or pillar footings. Foundation is the most important part of your shed and it needs to be on level ground for stability, so make sure not to skip this step!
Ordering material online, was the best for me, as you can have them deliver it right to your door! All you have left then is assembling it on site.
Day 1 was concrete pour for 8×8 shed. We gave it a week to cure and pressed on with the build.
Day 2 we framed up the flooring and the walls.
The flooring was then put in place and leveled, its also best to make sure when framing the floor you make sure that everything is square. Once you’re all set you can lay the flooring which is 3/4″ treated plywood. We framed out all 4 walls and erected them, again making sure they are all plumb, level, and square.
Day 3 we add roof rafters that were a foot higher on one side so there is a slope to it. This was all scrap wood we had on hand. Again we sheeted the rafters similarly to the walls and floor, however we used 1/2 inch plywood as again that was what was readily available to us.
Day 4 we added roofing shingles, trimmed the exterior, and painted.
It was a very busy day, its been a very busy and laborious few days, but in the end, we are completely happy with a beautiful shed just perfect for what we needed.
